Poppy’s, a women-owned hospitality group dedicated to serving seasonal, delicious food, and fostering community, is seeking a talented Pastry Chef. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the Owner to develop and implement short- and long-term business strategies.
  • Lead menu development, balancing creativity, seasonality, and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as point person for catering, events, and café pastry production.
  • Forecast and plan for large orders and catering events, ensuring production schedules align with demand.
  • Oversee staffing, workflow, and productivity to meet budgeted labor costs and business demand.
  • Optimize pastry program profitability while minimizing waste.
  • Handle inventory management, ordering, and monthly stock checks.
  • Cost menu items to ensure accurate pricing.
  • Ensure compliance with DOH protocols and maintain cleaning/maintenance routines.
  • Develop and implement efficient systems and processes, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Recruit, hire, and train a diverse team, fostering growth and success.
  • Address performance issues and conflicts with coaching, mediation, and progressive discipline.
  • Lead with empathy, ensuring productive communication and teamwork.

What we are looking for: 

  • 2+ years of experience in a high-production pastry environment
  • Expertise in classic and modern pastry techniques (laminated doughs, cakes, and tarts).
  • Skilled in baking, decorating, and maintaining high presentation standards.
  • Adaptable to menu or production changes and multitask between café and catering.
  • Experienced in recipe development, scaling, cost control, and inventory management.
  • Effective communicator and leader, with cross-department coordination experience.

While performing the duties of the job, the Pastry Chef is regularly required to stand and walk; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. They must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($75,000.00 – $85,000.00)
